A Gastronomic Travel to Jamaica's Restaurants

I certainly believe that a restaurant experience is made of quality food, quality ingredients, ambiance and service. Who does not enjoy a meal better when your palate is spoiled with the most delicious flavours, the freshness of the ingredients used in the preparation and, first and foremost, the service provided by the staff that works at that place? I am sure that you will be nodding a yes to this question... it is true! A culinary experience is COMPLETE only when those factors converge. Otherwise, there is something missing.

The idea behind this Blog is to start on a blank slate... let me say that I want to give a new opportunity to Jamaica's gastronomic scene... and I want to try it because it has grown and I am happy to see how new places appear and old place get a facelift!

However, this is not a one man's show... I want the help and recommendations of readers who, like me, enjoy the eating out experience. I'll be reporting on what I taste, smell, see and, particularly, on the way I am treated as a paying customer... we cannot forget that we are talking about money and we want QUALITY.

Everyone should go out and enjoy KRW... It's awesome!
T.G.I.F is great... The environment is perfect for friends to go out and enjoy a night out on the town.... The staff there are very attentive, and friendly. The food has always been great!
Cuddy'z has good food, but the service sucks....
Ambrosia a.k.a Acropolis is very good... Last KRW they had live performance, the food was great. The staff was attentive, and friendly. What made Ambrosia so unique was the fact that you could get your free drink right there and then with your meal... As well, as it is inside the gaming lounge, so the night was great.
Ribkage never disappoints! It's so good, no matter how graceful you are, you're sure gonna lick your fingers!
Waterfalls?? How about NO!!!
Waterfalls is nasty... The food was horrible when I went, and the service sucked... There is nothing to write home about, and I would not recommend it to anyone...
On the flip side, Prendy's is not all that, but it was some good food...

I was curious about Mac's; wanted to see for myself if the place lived up to the hype heaped upon it (some say "yes", others "no". But the hype wins, a mere two days after the ads came out, the special number to call to make a reservation JUST for KRW goes straight to voicemail for an hour straight.

Jewel of India is really lovely...i remember trying their Crab Tikka last year during KRW and it was fantastic.

That said, I heard an ugly little rumour that Mac's has only ONE table in the whole restaurant available for KRW. Is this true? If so, I guess they're not interested in people being able to try their offering. Out of many, one people!!

You are going on like if you are a big gastronomic criticizer, my first question to you is, what is your back ground in the food industry?
You are hiding behind JG, this is not Jamaica Goumet oh sorry GOURMET, this is pure JUNK GARBAGE! Your apology is worth nothing, who doesn’t read what he is writing can’t be trusted for his critics.
It look like your eyes are planted in your keyboard and not on the screen when writing, read what you are writing please before you post or submit, thank you.

Criticizers all over the world are very well known and you shshshsh no one must know who you are, because they will treat you differently! Foolishness! You know nothing about food.

The worst part is that people hear read you and thinking that you know something about food! Hey people, this is Mr. DS of blogs, one gone with people’s money and this JG is making his money by writing junk. All what you have to do is to click on his page and he makes money, and if you spend more than 30 seconds he will make more money.

Did you read his post about Chill-eat-os, I trusted JG and visited them me and my pregnant wife, and we got sick; I had to admit my wife for serious condition! And you think it’s a good place to go! Is JG going to take responsibility for all the lies they wrote about Chill-eat-os. Did you visit their bathroom? Nasty! Did you visit their kitchen? I saw it on my way to the bathroom, NASTY. Come on you are ready to write anything just to make people comment and you make money!!!

People trust you and support your posts like they trusted DS, so sad most of us Jamaicans don’t learn not to trust people just so! Even me mad the mistake to read you, and my wife ended up in serious condition.

Thank you JG!

I'm not sure what a critizer is so I guess I have to make this brief. I have no experience in the food industry aside from having designed a few restaurants in the Caribbean and that I eat out a fair amount, and know what I like.

I believe KRW is an amazing opportunity for Jamaican's to get out and enjoy the culinary offerings Kingston has to offer. However, that said it also highlights the limitation of our market. A few years ago during the restaurant week, I tried passing by my local "a sweet and quiet joint where the Pinot flows freely and its never hard to get a table." As we'd say di place did ram! And so it was the next day and the day after. In fact we had to start calling ahead.

The thing is, and as the BRL studies have indicated (you might remember the questionnaires filled out at the last KRW), there is a great need for more restaurants in the corporate area. At last shout there was a market for a least 25 new moderately priced restaurants ranging from Thai, Greek and Caribbean fusion.

I'm looking for somewhere new to eat...KRW aside Jamaica Gourmet is offering a healthy criticism to our local culinary arts, keep speaking your mind you are not alone - this forum albeit dubbed a gastromnic guide is cue to actually making our eating experience better and better.

cheers

Mad architect, after reading your comment, am I to understand that you are JG??

Nope, despite it all I am not the Jamaica Gourmet, nor even a facsimile. Just someone who equally has a passion for the dining experience
